How much weight can you lift?
How fast can you run a mile?
How long and intense can you workout before exhaustion?
Human muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones all possesses maximum capacity prior to being torn, broken or crushed. There are myriad motivational videos that would have you believe that you can achieve anything as long as you try hard enough. Allow me to present you with a more accurate depiction of the process.
In the beginning stages, progression may be palpable. Break the mental constraints through determination grants you the exhilarating realization that you are capable of withstanding considerably more than you initially thought possible. (If you have not yet experience such event, I urge you to depart from your comfort zone.)
However, once intermediate stage is achieved through consistent cultivation, the margin of error and advancement diminishes exponentially. At this point, excessive exercise or incursion of any mistake, will force you to discover your physical limitations by the way of injuries.
There are two types of pain. One is development pain, which you must overcome to flourish. Another is injury pain, it is your body screaming at you, informing you that something is terribly wrong, you need to stop doing what you are doing before further destruction occurs. Our capability to differentiate the two types of pain and make adjustments accordingly permits us to proceed to the advance stage of physical performance.
To be an expert of physicality is to sustain your physical condition at your limit/peak without exceeding it by constantly managing a proper balance of workouts, nutritional intakes, and recoveries. For breaking your physical limits is to break your body.
Each individual can only lift so much, run so fast, and workout for so long before total exhaustion. Some may not even have certain extremities due to birth defects or accidents later in life. Acknowledge your restraints so you may further refine and utilize your physique suitably.
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.
